Soldier Without Armor

You have to listen to this song, “Soldier Without Armor.” It was written, composed and recorded by a 10-year-old and two 12 year olds for their young friend battling cancer. These kids are truly amazing and inspiring – we adults can learn so much from them. They are a wonderful example of what living life solid is all about…

Soldier Without Armor

Shannon Tichenor | Annika Knudson | Jayke Workman | Erin Scherl

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it is great to have friends who can help. That is what happened when Annika Knudson, age 11, was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma. Raintree Montessori School students Erin Scherl, age 10, Jayke Workman, age 12 and Shannon Tichenor, age 12, wanted to do something to help their friend so they turned their worry into hope composing a song entitled “Soldier Without Armor.” Known as Annika’s Song, the young artists wrote both the lyrics and the melody, and with the help of musician Mike West, made a recording. The result is a hauntingly beautiful melody about the power of friendship and love to overcome one of life’s greatest challenges: cancer. While in Mike West’s recording studio, the children also recorded “I’m Here,” another song they wrote.

NOTE: Annika has been pronounced cancer free by her doctors!

A Ride to Save Lives

Giving Loop

Design for Team in Training Duquette-Graff

We are excited to share with you our new Giving Loop design we just wrapped up for Team in Training Duquette-Graff.  This mother/daughter Team, Patrice & Allisa, will be pounding out the miles on their bikes to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. They will be riding 200 miles from Seattle to Portland to help find a cure for blood cancers.

As Allisa says:

“I have met so many honored heroes over the years in volunteering with the Society and Team In Training. Each story has had its own unique touch to it, and inspired me further to do a good job at volunteering. My main volunteer position has been to help the kids attending the TNT pasta dinner in Detroit make posters to cheer on their parents the next day. Many of the children I worked with had been affected by a blood cancer and each has stayed with me. One of the most impactful statements from one of the dinners has stuck inside my mind to this day. A man speaking to the group said, “Last year I carried my son across the finish line, now I can only carry him across in my heart.” When I realized the enormity of that sentence, I saw how important all this money we were raising really was. We can save lives by raising funds.”

It has been an honor to be a ripple in their wave to bring awareness to, and raise funds for, a cure for cancer.  Solid folks making a solid difference. Kudos Team in Training Duquette-Graff.

To be a part of that ripple, donate here. Please get in the Loop spread the word via Twitter & Facebook!

Friends Like Us has a goal to help children and their families who have been devastated by childhood cancer. They want to bring resources to the parents and joy/laughter to the children. With all the pain and heartache that can come with this disease, they want but for a moment to leave a lasting impression of love and hope with them. What matters the most is remaining an inspiration to all we meet along the way.
Another solid group of folks doing their part to help others and make a difference!

Join Us in Helping Out A Solid Big Sister

Team Cams

Jennifer & her brother Cameron

We came across Jennifer on Twitter not too long ago and realized quickly, she is an absolute solid soul and a truly awesome big sister. Jennifer’s little brother, Cameron, has Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy. In his honor, she has brought together a Team called Team Cams, for Make-A-Wish Walk for Wishes on May 8th.

We decided we wanted to do something to help Jennifer raise money for her Team Cams Make-A-Wish Walk. We will be donating $10 from every Solid HOPE ring sold between now & May 8th to Team Cams in honor of her little brother Cameron.

As most of you know, we firmly believe in the power of a small group of fish swimming together to make some mighty big waves! We ask you to join us and make a solid difference for Cameron and type in TEAMCAMS in special instructions at checkout when you buy our HOPE ring & we’ll donate $10 here: TEAMCAMS each time we receive an order in his honor.

Please share with your friends & join us in making a solid difference!

Calling All Non-profits! Business Card Giving Loop Giveaway!

Giving Loop Business Cards

A couple cards we've designed & printed for some solid folks.

We are always trying to find ways to make a bit of a difference…to help those who are helping others. We aren’t a multi-million dollar company, but we believe in doing our part and giving back in a solid way when we can.

We currently offer a discount to non-profits on our design services. We know budgets are slim to none for many small, grass root non-profits. So we put our thinking cap on. And we came up with offering our design services to help non-profits design & print their business cards. Kind of a “pay it forward” as we know these orgs certainly do their part helping others.

Here’s what we would like to offer:

  • complete business card design
  • professional full-color printing of cards
  • 500 cards
  • we will post your card design on Twitter, Facebook & our Blog for some exposure for your org.
  • all of above at no charge

Here’s how it will work:

  • post a comment here telling us & our followers about your organization – please include link :)
  • you must be a non-profit
  • we will provide services mentioned above, free of charge, to the first 5 non-profits who post

Yep. It’s that simple! We will contact the 5 organizations with details & then we’ll get started on your cards. Okay, carpe diem folks!

Note: Open to orgs in U.S. only at this time. Above does not cover shipping charges & does not include a logo design. Perhaps one day when we’re a bigger fish we can cover that, too! :)
