My mom inspires me most. My mom was the oldest of 9 children who was only able to attend school to the 6th grade because she had to care for her 8 younger siblings. She is a 50 year cancer survivor, she raised 4 children while caring for her mother and her mother in law. My mom then cared for my dad, who had Parkinsons and Dementia, as long as she could. My mom is 83 years old, is the victim of several strokes, she is an AVID reader, she still struggles everyday but manages to do most things for herself. My mom is an inspiration to me and my teenage boys.
There’s a kid in my life I’ve sort of adopted as a little brother. He’s six. He has lymphoma. This little dude never once complained during treatment. I helped him learn the alphabet and other things for kindergarten while he was in the hospital so that he would be able to be in the class he’s supposed to be in when he’s better (he never doubted that he’d get better).
He never gave up, in spite of having a few moments where he’d struggle. He would run into the bathroom and throw up, then apologize and ask where we were, then get back to work. Amazing.
He’s now in the 1st grade doing well and looking forward to Halloween.
I am most inspired by people like @cancerlost, (Meaghan), who have survived cancer and still managed to take away a positive attitude! So much so that they then go on to start an organization like @spiritjump to provide comfort and encouragement to others who are on this most horrifying journey! The time and dedication it takes to put aside the pain and sorrow that accompanies not only her own journey…but all the others that she has exposed herself to, to run and maintain this org.; is Inspirational to say the least!!! And I am inspired by all people who do these wonderful self-sacrificing things for others! And…I will follow these type of people into the fray….as my time and heart will allow!!! Good Job Meaghan!!!!
P.S. Not to diminish others like @LifeOfPower,@LilliJ . @levitanl and @Nique4SJ
My son Philip. There is no one I know young or old who inspires me more. He has struggled his whole life. His first Brain operation was at 6 weeks old…and he has had 10 of them…he has worked hard to overcome a stroke…He had to elarn to suck, smile, swallow and breathe again.
He has had to struggle though 26 orthopedica operations ..and spents months in hopsitals.
He has been brave and strong and never given up..He is my son…and he is my hero.
Thank you for letting me share about Philip.
This was actually a tough, tough question. See, I have plenty of people in my life, who inspire me in quiet ways every day – from the Brown Baggers (breast cancer survivor drop-in group) that I used to work with; to my best girlfriend (who is a breast cancer survivor); to my Mom – who lost her first husband (to cancer) when she was only 29; to my colleagues… I could go on and on. But I’d rather name a different kind of “who” that inspires me every day.
My Who: The numerous “average” people I am finding online who are doing the most awesome things – and making a big difference in the world, sometimes through the power of a good deed ripple effect. Here’s just a few that I have heard about in the past few weeks:
The Sparkle Effect: http://www.thesparkleeffect.org
Peruvian Hearts: http://www.peruvianhearts.org
Video of softball player carried around bases by opponents: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVlKtI7yd_s
And today I was introduced to Tabitha: http://www.afiveoh4uplifting.org/
I could go on and on, and I thank you in advance for letting me make this long post. I am so thankful and grateful for the inspiring people who I have been blessed to find via this medium.
It inspires me to try and make a difference too.
In gratitude,
Tracy
My daughters inspire me. They inspired me from birth to be the best mother I could be. They inspire me now to set the best example I can as an adult.
This is a hard question. But for today I would have to say that the one person that inspires me right now is my IRL friend Amyb. We met through an online diet forum and found out that we live near each other. A wonderful friendship began. Seeing her outlook on life and her perspective on things with all that her oldest Philip has been through has been completely inspirational. Then last year she was diagnosed with cancer. Yes, there are hard days… but she still has that outlook that I find absolutely amazing. I am sure I would not be able to do or act as Amy has, given the same circumstances.
I have learned and am still learning to dig deep down and live for what really matters. I am in awe of her and God for letting our paths cross.
Thank you for the chance to express who inspires me and to share the blessing of my friend Amy.
Ok. Have been asked by a few to answer the question too! We won’t draw our name to win, promise!
The person who inspires me the most in my life is my Dad. He is one of the rare “good guys” – always doing the right thing no matter the consequence. He once helped a pregnant woman at a gas station who was being harassed by a bunch of hard core bikers who would not let her in her car. He walked into the middle of all them and got her in her car safely. They proceeded to beat the living daylights out of him. But, he did the right thing – while others watched on and did nothing to help. Wish I had time & room to tell you a few more stories of just how rock solid of a person he is…
My Dad has the most incredible, positive attitude of anyone I know. He battles Leukemia, Parkinsons and Cluster headaches like no other and NEVER complains. EVER. He is grateful for every single day he is here and has a sense of humor that rocks. I speak to him everyday and he always tells me, “My feet hit the floor this morning when I got up, so life is good!” He watched cancer take his mom, dad, sister and best friend. He watched my sister battle a brain tumor and survive 9/11 – by 6 minutes with her family…all in the same year. And yet, he still remains positive. My dad is my hero. And, I want to be like him when I grow up.
WOW!!! That was a truly inspirational story! Thank You for sharing it with us!
My little brother inspires me. He has been a diabetic since he was 3yrs old. He has had a hard life. He has gone through his second kidney transplant, which has now been rejected. It was so sad to watch him return to his dialysis unit, and he was as happy a pig in mud just to see all his old “pals” still there (awaiting for their chance at a transplant). He always has a smile and on his face, a joke to tell, and is always looking to make someone’s day brighter. I love him, and it kills me to see him in such pain. Although he tells me a new kidney will give him another 20yrs, we know it won’t, and that his time with us will be too short. He is grateful for all the time he has had, sick or not … he is my greatest inspiration!
Grats goes out to our winner Jessica who left her answer on Facebook for us. I have to thank you guys for sharing your amazing, wonderful, inspiring stories with us – all incredibly solid in depth. I am so glad the drawing for the winner was by random drawing or I don’t know how we would have chosen a winner. We appreciate your solid support. Thanks for helping us spread that positive mojo! Have a great weekend, be well & stay solid in all you do! Cheers!
